KIA’s Zilina Factory Produces One Million Cars

The Kia Motors Manufacturing Slovakia site has been open for just five years and has built its 1,000,000th car- which was a white diesel engined cee’d SW.


The Cee’d was immediately handed to a Slovakian children’s charity called the Red Nose Clowndoctors, the Cee’d is the 600,000th version of the Zillina factory’s first car. The factory is also currently producing the Sportage and the Venga.

The plant has recorded a 10% year on year increase in car production and also a increase of 12% in engine production during 2011, its produced 252,000 cars and 359,00 engines. The factory also plans to increase production of cars to 285,000 cars this year.

Eek-Hee Lee, President and CEO of Kia Motors Slovakia commented “Kia Motors Slovakia has achieved an important milestone in its history with the production of the millionth car. We decided to donate it to an organisation which will bring pleasure to children during their stay in hospitals”.

The plant produced 101,000 units of the Sportage which represented  40% of overall production. 103,000 Cee’d models were produced, which was 41% of the total production and 11,000 Kia Venga models were also produced from the site. The reminder of 2011 production of 36,000 units were Hyundai’s IX35, manufactured up to June 2011.

The site launched a third shift this year and have increased the number of employees to 3,900. The company are currently preparing themselves for the second generation of the Cee’d model during the second quarter.
