As well as the Bipper’s compact proportions, frugal HDi diesel engines and transmissions and a payload of up to 660kg and a load volume of 2.5m3, the award was also given for the durability and quality of Peugeot’s fleet sales and support service. The ‘Manufacturer Awards’ are highly contested, therefore it is an extreme achievement for Peugeot.

Trevor Gelken, editor of Fleet Van, commented on the Peugeot Bipper’s award success, “This was a closely-fought contest, but the Bipper was a clear overall winner, assisted by the prominence of Peugeot’s renewed focus on fleet support and after sales.”

His dream was about to become reality more than 40 years later, however his 30 year old wife couldn’t bear the thought of him blasting off on a journey into the unknown.

Hywell was one of more than 14,000 entrants in the Peugeot Spot 3008 competition, whose imagination had been captured by the prospect of looking down over planet Earth and becoming one of a very select band of humans to witness a sunrise from the edge of space.

However, he has decided to leave his dream as a dream, out of respect for his wife, who has a fear of all things flying. He has taken the alternative cash prize of £30,000 instead.

“The opportunity to win a space flight immediately captured my imagination, so it is with massive regret I pass up this opportunity”, said Hywell.

“My wife means the world to me and the last thing I would want is to cause her worry. The cash prize will enable us to re-decorate our home, have a nice holiday and even buy a new car. These are all things that benefit both of us, but I’m afraid it’d a triumph of pragmatism over dreams”, he added.

There were nine winners announced by Next Green Car , making them the Greenest new cars of 2011/12. The winners had to show a high level of innovation, good value, drive experience, design and environmental Green Car Rating. Managing Editor of Next Green Car noted, “The 2011 winners reflect the latest technologies being used by manufacturers to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.”

The celebrating for Peugeot doesn’t stop as they have just scooped up the ‘Best Sports Coupe’ with the RCZ in the Auto Express ‘Best New Car Awards’.

With its launch of the world’s first diesel hybrid vehicle, from mid-2011, Peugeot presents a new and original offer in terms of environmental efficiency and driving sensations.

The hybridisation of the diesel engine (2.0 HDi FAP 163 bhp) drving the front wheels and an electric motor with a capacity of 37 bhp at the rear, sets the scene for 4-wheel drive, giving a ‘zero emission’ mode, standardised average fuel consumption of 74.3 mpg and a maximum power output of 200 bhp. The CO2 emissions will only be 99 g/km! … A 35% reduction compared to an engine with comparable power.

HR1 Concept Car
This car will combine a city run-around, coupé and SUV, being urban, distinctive and innovative. The HR1 offers a whole new driving experience by being inspired by new trends in hyper-connectivity, modularity and responsiveness. Adding this all together will mean the HR1 is aimed at young, active city dwellers with a liking for design and technology.

The HR1 features a ‘scissor’ door system for access to the passenger compartment which shows it is incredibly innovative and modular.

The HR1 features HYbrid4 technology, here combining an original 3-cylinder 1.2 THP petrol engine at the front with a rear electric motor to offer a potential power output of 147 bhp, reduced CO2 emissions (80 g/km, or 0 in electric mode), and 4-wheel drive.
